Emotions in Gender
Avoiding Conflict
- Generally, the male gender is suppose to experience emotions such as anger and hostility.
- The female gender experiences more emotions relating to sadness, fear, shame, and guilt.
- All in all, I would say that I experience both equally.
- I do get angry sometimes, but I also experience sadness too.
- If a sad movie is being played, most likely I am going to be provoked into feeling sad.
- I do follow gender based display roles when it comes to emotion.
- I know that a man is not suppose to show some true feelings such as sadness and fear.
- When presented with these situations, I tend to hide them from others.
Avoiding Conflict
- One particular situation: My parents kept harping on me in high school for coming home late at night.
- I choose avoidance because I felt that if I let the situation go on the back burner they would forget about it and the punishment would lessen.
- Negative consequences: Was grounded for 2 weekends, and I felt ashamed and immature for not dealing with the situation.
- Positive outcomes: None that really stick out.
- If I could redo the encounter: I would sit down and talk with them and try to convince them that being home by midnight is too early.
